Syed E. Abidi, PhD
Syed E. Abidi, PhD has over 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development, and is an original founding member of Pii. Dr. Abidi has extensive experience in dosage form development, including capsules, tablets, modified release tablets, suspensions, solutions, small volume parenterals, suppositories, creams, ointments, gels, inhalation aerosols and transdermals. He also has experience with pre-approval inspection preparation, and with scale-up and launch of major pharmaceutical products (both prescription and OTC).
Prior to joining Pii, Dr. Abidi served as the Vice President of American Drug Development, Inc. from 1994 to 1995, where he was responsible for research and development activities. He also worked as the Director of Pharmaceutics at Hercon Laboratories, as a Principal Scientist for Applied Analytical, Inc., and as a Senior Scientist for Schering-Plough Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Abidi earned his BS in Pharmacy from Karachi University in Pakistan in 1975, and his MS and PhD in Pharmaceutics from the University of Mississippi in 1977.
Michael Bogda joined Pii in 2016 as President and COO.
Prior to joining Pii, Michael served as President of Lannett Company. He has also held the position of Executive Vice President of Americas Technical Operations at Teva, and worked at Barr Laboratories Inc. in various roles of increasing responsibility, eventually serving as Barr’s President and COO.
Michael earned his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and both his BS and MS in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University.
Steve J. King
Steve J. King has over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, and has spent the last 20 years at Pii, where he has been instrumental in building Pii’s business. Steve’s responsibilities have included managing Pii’s business development, sales, marketing and project management, as well as being involved in structuring and negotiating Pii’s agreements for all contract development, commercial supply and profit share deals. In addition, Steve was responsible for the 2008 acquisition of Pharmaterials Limited, Pii’s wholly owned subsidiary in the UK.
Prior to joining Pii, Steve worked at RP Scherer (later acquired by Catalent) in both the UK and the US. He was responsible for the business development of the Export group in the UK and the Pharmaceutical business in the US. As a result of his work in the UK, RP Scherer was awarded the Queens Award for Export. Early in Steve’s career, he worked as a sales representative for Janssen in the UK.
Steve was educated at the London School of Pharmacy, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy in 1982.
Julien A. Hecht
Julien A. Hecht joined Pii in 2014 as Vice President and General Counsel. Julien has over 30 years of experience in the practice of law, with over 18 years’ experience in the role of General Counsel.
Prior to joining Pii, Julien served as Vice President & General Counsel of DAP Products Inc., an international consumer chemical product manufacturer headquartered in Baltimore, MD. He also was previously a partner and counsel in several prominent Baltimore-based law firms. Julien has wide-ranging experience in corporate, commercial, regulatory, environmental, intellectual property and litigation matters for both mature and start-up companies engaged in manufacturing, distribution, pharmaceutical and technology-related activities.
Julien received his undergraduate degree cum laude from Yale University in 1974, and his Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University Of Maryland Francis King Carey School Of Law in 1978, where he was Managing Editor of the Maryland Law Review.
Gerard Fleury joined Pii as Chief Financial Officer in 2016. Gerard has over 25 years of experience as a CFO, COO or CEO of companies in the life science, healthcare, healthcare IT and software sectors.
Prior to joining Pii, Gerard spent the early part of his career working for Deloitte & Touche, rising to senior manager in their Emerging Business and Corporate Finance Groups. During his career, Gerard has managed companies through turn-around situations, as well as through growth and optimization cycles. In addition, he has served on the boards of directors or advisors of software, internet, data center, and utility companies. Gerard also has experience in establishing and/or managing both domestic and international subsidiaries, including companies in China, Germany, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Netherlands, and the UK. Gerard has completed numerous financing transactions, including venture capital, private equity, leasing, and commercial banking, and has experience in mergers and acquisitions, both on the buy-side and sell-side.
In 1980, Gerard earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Towson University. He also successfully completed the CPA Exam in 1980.
Michele Piepoli acted as Deputy Head of Quality to Pii’s President and COO in 2016 and became Vice President of Quality in 2017.
Michele has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry in the areas of Quality, Compliance and Regulatory. Prior to joining Pii, Michele spent 17 years leading projects for Novartis, Merck and Pfizer focused on ensuring completion of regulatory commitments. Michele’s 40+ year career has included various roles of increasing responsibility, including positions as Site Compliance Head and Site Quality Assurance Head, as well as international work.
Michelle earned a degree in Pre-Medical (Chemistry) at Rutgers University.
Tony Cerbone joined Pii in 2016 as Vice President of Human Resources. Tony has over 20 years of Human Resource experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Prior to joining Pii, Tony spent 18 years of his career at Teva’s North Wales, PA, facility, where he was the Human Resource Lead, responsible for US, Canada and Latin America operations. Most recently, Tony worked for Warbird Consulting Partners, where he was the acting VP of Human Resources for Kremers Urban Pharmaceuticals. In this position, Tony played a major role in transitioning Kremers through a successful divestment from its parent company, UCB in Brussels. In addition to his experience in Human Resources, Tony worked as the VP of Operations for Circuit Foil USA.
Tony graduated from Rutgers University with a BA in Botany.
James Glover joined Pii in January 2017 as Vice President of Operations. James has over 27 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
James formerly served as the Head of Manufacturing, Warehouse and Supply Chain for Dynavax Technologies, Inc. Prior to Dynavax, James held various roles of increasing responsibility at both Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics and Bayer Healthcare, in the areas of global quality, manufacturing and contract operations, and project management.
James earned a BS in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
