Graham Buckton, Ph.D. is CEO and Founder of Pharmaterials, a spin-out company from the School of Pharmacy, University of London. Pharmaterials was aquired by Pii in 2008. Dr. Buckton obtained a BPharm from Chelsea College University of London, his PhD from Kings College London and his DSc from the University of London.
Having stood down as Head of the Department of Pharmaceutics, Dr. Buckton now has a joint appointment as Professor of Pharmaceutics. He was previously Reader, Senior Lecturer and Lecturer in Pharmaceutics, and before that was Lecturer in Pharmacy at Kings College London.
Dr. Buckton has been elected to Fellowships of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. He has published over 200 full papers, is editor of the International Journal of Pharmaceutics and has served on the editorial board of Pharm Res, the AAPS Journal, AAPS PharmSciTech, and the Excipients Handbook. Dr. Buckton has given numerous plenary lectures in Europe, the US, and the Middle East. He was a member of the Committee on Safety of Medicines, and chaired the sub-committee on Chemistry, Pharmacy and Standards, and continues as a member of the Chemistry, Pharmacy and Standards TAG of the new Commission on Human Medicines. Dr. Buckton is a British Pharmacopoeia Commissioner and chaired the Committee on Excipients. Graham was chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Pharmaceutical Sciences Group and became the first Chair of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, after working tirelessly to oversee the formation and successful launch of that organisation.
Dr. Buckton has received numerous awards and honours, including the Pfizer Award, the Sunner Award for outstanding work in calorimetry, the British Pharmaceutical Conference Science Medal, and being selected as British Pharmaceutical Conference Science Chairman.
