Donald A. Johnson, Ph.D. is Vice
President of Analytical Services at Pharmaceutics International,
Inc. (PII). He came to PII in January 2001 with objectives
to build systems for the laboratories that would accommodate
PII’s rapid growth. His talent for organizing and developing
departments came from his previous position at Algos Pharmaceutical
Corporation (now Endo Pharmaceuticals) where he achieved the
position of Senior Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development.
Algos, a start-up company, presented him with unique opportunities
in organizing and developing new departments responsible for
formulation and analytical development, process scale-up,
manufacturing, and packaging, labeling, distribution and reconciliation
of clinical supplies. He also served on the Clinical Protocol
Review Committee for Phase I to Phase III studies.
From 1974 to 1985 Dr. Johnson
was a student at the University of Wisconsin where he earned
his bachelor degree in Pharmacy and his masters and doctorate
degrees in Pharmaceutics. During his graduate work, Dr. Johnson
visited the Universities of Kansas and Michigan as a traveling
scholar and was able to integrate the philosophies of those
institutions into his training.
Dr. Johnson has worked exclusively
and extensively in the Pharmaceutical industry since 1985.
His experience ranges from positions held in a large multi-national
company to virtual and start-up companies. He has held previous
positions at Schering-Plough, Noven Pharmaceuticals, Applied
Analytical Industries (AAI), and Algos Pharmaceutical Corporation.
His responsibilities included pharmaceutical development,
clinical study review, and business development. He has contributed
to the writings of two Private Placement Memorandums, one
Initial Public Offering, and several licensing agreements.
He has had direct interactions with the FDA and prepared numerous
documents for inclusion into regulatory submissions.
Dr. Johnson’s scientific accomplishments
include publication in several refereed journals, including
the Theoretical Journal of Biology. He is also the inventor
on several U.S patents.
